CHAPTER 1 – A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE
NARRATOR: Once upon a time, on a perfectly ordinary street, in a perfectly ordinary house, there lived a very extraordinary boy.
His name was Malcolm.
He was seven years old, with messy brown hair, big curious eyes and a head full of questions.
Why doesn't the Moon fall down onto the Earth? Why do the stars twinkle? And what would happen if someone sneezed in space?
Nobody had been able to answer that last question yet.
Malcolm also had a best friend. A little white-and-brown dog called Zoll.
Zoll had two big ears, two big brown eyes and an incredible talent for finding food even where there wasn't any.
But today was a big day!
Malcolm was celebrating his seventh birthday!
On the table stood an enormous chocolate cake with seven candles.
And under the table sat Zoll.
He was waiting patiently to see if anyone would drop a bit of whipped cream.
MUM tenderly: “Malcolm, sweetheart, we have one more present for you. And I think this one is going to make you really happy.”
NARRATOR: Dad brought in a big box tied with a blue ribbon.
MALCOLM excitedly: “Really? What is it?”
MUM with a smile: “You'll have to find out for yourself.”
DAD cheerfully: “Well then, our little space explorer? Are you ready?”
MALCOLM very excitedly: “YES! I WANT TO SEE IT NOW!”
NARRATOR: Malcolm tore off the paper. He opened the big box.
