When the Cauldron in Peklo Froze
A funny story about the little devil Fúrik
1. Fúrik's Big Mistake
NARRATOR: Deep under the ground, much deeper than the roots of the oldest trees reach, lay a very strange kingdom. It was called Peklo.
But it wasn't the kind of underworld you know from spooky stories. In Peklo, the devils laughed more than they scared anyone, and the worst disaster was when somebody burnt their lunch.
Instead of streams, hot lava flowed here, fragrant sulphur smoke rose from the chimneys, and coal crackled in the fiery ovens from morning till night. For breakfast the devils toasted charcoal toast, for lunch they cooked fire soup, and in the evening they warmed their slippers by the glowing stones.
In the middle of this hot kingdom stood a little house with a red roof and a crooked chimney.
And that was where the little devil Fúrik lived.
NARRATOR: Fúrik was the youngest and perhaps the clumsiest little devil in all of Peklo. He had soft red fur, two golden horns, big brown eyes and messy blond hair that stuck out in every direction.
Behind him swung a long little tail with a pointy tip.
He was kind, cheerful and very curious. But he had one tiny flaw.
Actually two.
Or three.
NARRATOR: Simply put, Fúrik hardly ever managed to do anything the way he was supposed to.
Once he squeezed mustard onto his toothbrush instead of toothpaste.
“Yuck! Why are my teeth stinging so much?” he wondered.
