The Doll Who Learned to Dance
A bedtime story
NARRATOR: In a little house at the end of a quiet street lived a girl called Dorotka.
Dorotka had lots of toys in her little room. Colourful blocks, a teddy bear, a wooden horse and a big box full of crayons.
But of all her toys, she loved one the most.
A doll called Lili.
Lili had long brown hair, blue eyes and a beautiful pink dress that swayed gently with every movement.
Every evening Dorotka tucked her into bed beside her.
And that was where she told her her biggest secrets.
One evening, when a big moon was shining outside the window, Dorotka hugged the doll and whispered to her:
DOROTKA tenderly, like a little child: “Lili... do you know what I'd wish for more than anything?”
NARRATOR: Of course, the doll didn't answer.
At least not while Dorotka was awake.
DOROTKA: “I'd wish you could dance.”
NARRATOR: Dorotka smiled.
DOROTKA excitedly: “If you could dance, I'd show you to all the children. And I'd tell them: Look! This is my Lili. My doll can really dance!”
NARRATOR: Then she kissed the doll on the forehead.
DOROTKA very quietly: “Goodnight, Lili.”
NARRATOR: A moment later Dorotka was fast asleep.
The little room went quiet.
Tick...
tock...
tick...
tock...
went the clock.
The moonlight crept slowly across the floor until it touched Lili's face.
And then...
Lili opened her eyes.
LILI surprised, but softly: “Dorotka wishes I could dance...”
NARRATOR: The doll sat up.
